Introduction to woodturning Woodturning refers to a form of woodworking used to make various different types of wooden objects using a lathe. There are two main methods of turning using a lathe. The first method is Spindle Turning, which means the piece of wood is supported at each end. This method is used to turn objects such as chair legs and pens. The second is Faceplate Turning, which involves the piece of wood being attached to the lathe by fixing it to the faceplate. Objects such as bowls and platters can be turned using this method. The general concept of wood turning is quite simple. A piece of wood rotates on the machine and a handheld tool is put in contact with it in order to remove waste material.
