The Parting Tool is a relatively straight forward tool that is normally used to separate (part off) a piece from the lathe. This tool can also be used to cut grooves in a spindle when beginning to cut a bead. It is a pointed tool with a bevel on each side and a short cutting edge. The Parting Tool is used using the same principles as the other tools, the bevel is rubbed on the piece and then the cutting edge is engaged. The tool can be used for either spindle turning or for parting off a piece when on the faceplate.
